3D Model Record

A 3D model record is a digital record that presents an object as a rotatable or multi-view model. It allows viewers to observe shape, orientation, and surface relationships from more than one angle.

A 3D model record can help visitors understand form in ways that a single flat image cannot. It supports remote observation, comparative teaching, and digital access.

It also helps define the difference between the original object and its digital representation.

  • Check whether the model is a scan, reconstruction, illustration, or teaching approximation.
  • Look for scale information.
  • Ask whether the model includes enough surface detail for the learning question.
  • Note whether any parts are simplified, reconstructed, or missing.

Ask students to compare a single image with a 3D model. Which questions can the model answer more clearly? Which questions still require additional context?
