Section titled “Definition”Cultural sensitivity means interpreting objects with attention to cultural, religious, historical, or community significance. It asks whether an object requires additional context, restricted language, consultation, or limited public detail.
Why It Matters
Section titled “Why It Matters”Some collection materials carry meanings beyond their physical form. Public interpretation should not treat cultural significance as incidental or decorative.
How to Read It
Section titled “How to Read It”- Ask whether the object has cultural, religious, historical, or community context.
- Check whether the record names uncertainty or limits.
- Avoid reducing cultural meaning to visual description alone.
- Look for review notes or consultation needs.
Teaching Use
