Theme
Definition
Section titled “Definition”Theme identifies the interpretive topic that connects a record to exhibits, routes, or teaching activities.
A theme may describe the question or idea a record helps explore, such as skulls and diet, limbs and locomotion, preservation history, or teaching collection documentation.
Why It Matters
Section titled “Why It Matters”Theme helps visitors understand why a record is included and how it connects to other records.
How to Read It
Section titled “How to Read It”Ask:
- What larger question does this record support?
- Which exhibit or route uses this theme?
- What other records share the same theme?
Teaching Use
Section titled “Teaching Use”Ask students to group objects by theme and explain what each group helps them compare.
